MESA 7i97 - connection of DC TachMotor amplifiers - power supplies was created by Hartwig
Dear members,
my MESA card has arrived. It would be nice, if you could give me some information and direction, My questions are:
#1 Can I use every simple and cheap 5 VDC plug-in power supply unit or is a special quality required? How many Amps are needed?
#2 My DC Tacho-Motor amplifiers need an input signal from 0 - 10 VDC for the speed, I would assume, that I have to supply also something like 12 VDC to the MESA card so that the card can provide the +.10V output on TB3 PINs 4, 8 etc. - or where does the card get the 10VDC power from?
#3 My DC motor amplifiers (Mattke M1Q 24/5) connections are shown as below. The power for the amplifier and the DC Servo-Motor is provided separately. The only connection to the MESA should be the "Enable+" PIN to KL 8 and the 0-10 VDC set-value to the KL 7 - right?
Is there any critical interference between the GND of the MESA and the GND of the amplifier (because of KL7) to be feared ?
How can the direction of the DC-motor be reversed - would I need some relais to change the motor input cables for the case, that "Enable-" is activated?
Thanks a lot and best regards
Hartwig

1. I would use a good commercial power supply. The 7I97T draws only about 400 mA but the 5V also powers
the encoders which will add to this, I would suggest 2A.
2. The 7I97T has local +- analog power supplies so only requires +5V
3. ENA+ to KL8, ENA- to KL5, AOUT to KL7, GND to KL2
The real problem I see here is the these are unidirectional drives, and reversing with a relay will not work
when trying to hold position at low speeds (the relay is too slow)
What machine is this for and are these the original drives?
Because these drives would make sense for constant speed use but not position control.

Sorry, I have pasted print-screens, are not shown but are creating a lot of senseless Text.
I will repeat my post in a proper format.
Best regards
