Hi

I have performed the latency test. One with nothing running and the other with seven windows playing YouTube videos simultaneously.

I am unsure if this is how the test should be performed or if it is sufficient to determine whether my laptop is compatible with LinuxCNC.

Please upload the pictures here on the forum, not on 3'rd party websites.
Thank you.

First picture is OK, the second is not, so:
forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/40285-bios-settings-pictures
Se what you can disable there, test, if the result is still bad, try this but try this at your own risk as it requires messing with kernel parameters and might leave you with a non bootable system, not terrible if you are still inn the testing phase as you can reinstall in about 5 to 15 minutes depending on the PC/USB/HDD/SDD/NVME speed.

The second image shows seven tabs playing YouTube videos.

I will use the laptop solely and exclusively for the CNC. I will not run anything else at the same time.

Is my laptop suitable? It is a small CNC. I use a feed rate of 1,000 mm/min, and I will use the 5 motors/axes to machine a thin plastic plate (little effort). I will machine molds on 3 axes.

Do you have the Mesa card?
The only way to know for sure is to wire it to Mesa and leave it running and using it as you normally would with the machine, so open files, run gcode, etc as this can be done without a machine attached.
If you do not get latency warnings and no dropped link = all is good.
Have a look at some laptops i tested:

Some interesting suggestions on latency improvement here:
dantalion.nl/2024/09/29/linuxcnc-latency...arameter-tuning.html

But don't get too obsessed with it.
50k jitter is fine with a Mesa card. Though I would be a bit unhappy with 250k.
Try running the latency test without a base thread, you won't need one with a Mesa card.
