Any recommendations on running an older desktop as opposed to a new laptop? Also drawing in Valentina. Do they play well together?

Almost all of us use older desktops and no one (not even me) advise on using new or old laptops, if you bothered to read anything here.
And who is Valentina? I did have several friends named Valentina, all married by now.
