hello !

I 've build a simple x-y-table with both axis driven by small dc motors in a gearbox driven by 2 vnh3sp30 h-bridges.
The motors have an incremental shaft encoder output (optical, 64 pulses per rev in ttl logic level ),
the h-bridges accept pwm and direction input.
All 6 wires ( x pwm out, x dir out, x position in, y pwm out, y dir out, y position in )
are successfully connected to the 0x378-parport ( pin 8, 4, 10, 7, 5, 11 )
of a standard pc with most recent linuxcnc installed (2.5.1 as of today).

Is it possible to use the pncconf wizard to build a basic machine controller for a closed-loop pid system using pwm for
motor speed control and shaft encoder as feedback ? It reads that at least one mesa card is necessary for setup,
but basically I don't understand if one has to have one ..

No, it is specifically for configurig Mesa cards, rather than generic servo systems.

The good news is that there is already a sample configuration almost identical to yours. Look in the sample configs for the etch-servo config. This is a parport-only servo configuration for driving an Etch-a-Sketch.

You should be able to edit that to suit your application.
