7i76e not stepping was created by mngr0
Hi everybody!
I have recently bought a 7i76E, and I am trying to move a stepper with it.
I connected successfully the board to the computer with linuxcnc with an ethernet cable,
Used PnCConf to create an ini and hal file, and then started axis.
I tryed to manually move X, but no step came out from the 7i76E.
as I am using a stepper driver with ground in common with the 7i76E, I used the STEP+ pin, is this right?
then there is the thing with mesaflash thing that I have not understood well... I think I should use it to load something on the 7i76e, but I am not sure of what and how... (I loaded nothing at all, still default config)
Can, you please help me?

You shouldn't need mesaflash.
The fact the config loaded without error is a good start.
Does the display show movement?

yes, the tool moves in the display.
I connected the stepper to the first instance of the 7i76E (pin 1-6 of TB2)
and in the hal file X is connected to the hm2_eth.0
I have also tryed to connect the stepper to the other isntances on TB2 (later I will try the ones on TB3 too)

You might find the connection sheet here helpful

thanks rodw, I already have connected the stepper driver according to that manual.
It' s very useful I must say!
now It's connected to STEPPER 0. I tried to read STEP+ with an analyzer and it does not go up and down as it should

What are your step pulse length settings? A good place to start is to set these to double the minimum drive specifications.
(people often set these at the drives minimum settings which have a good chance of not working)

This may or may not be useful as I use the development branch (v 2.8) which is different to the stable 2.7 release in how joints and axes are configured, but I did publish a minimalist config for a 7i76e here
forum.linuxcnc.org/47-hal-examples/34072...ranch-gantry-example
There are a number of things you could have wrong in your ini file. I know when I got mine going first, I had very slow speeds so the steppers barely moved. Also some of the steplen parameters might be wrong for your hardware.....as PCW has suggested.
I would open up halshow (Show Machine Configuration menu) and browse the tree to see if pins for the 7i76e are showing. If it is, its just a configuration error....

thank you guys!
I played a little with steplen and step_space and the motor starded moving! it still needs some tweaking, but I can work on it!
thank you again!
