Do the affected joint position commands change when you jog them?

(joint.1.motor-pos-cmd, joint.2.motor-pos-cmd, joint.3.motor-pos-cmd, joint.4.motor-pos-cmd)

how do I check that?

I see in the software that the positions change (numbers) and the tool Icon move on the screen but the real tool doesn't move.

My apologies, I'm new to this.

OK if the icon moves that means that you are getting commanded positions
from LinuxCNC and valid feedback positions from the 7I96, so the most likely issue
is wiring or timing or an electrical fault

On the TB6600's I see a green LED on the X which works and then green + blue on the other 4. There's no documentation that identifies a blue light as far as I can tell.

You might try lengthening the step pulse to say 10 usec (10000 ns)
I think some of the packaged TB6600 drives need pretty
long step lengths

Tried that and no change.

I switched the wires from the7i96 to y1 driver over to the x driver and I can control the y motor off the x driver. I also can switch the wires from the motors to the x driver and can control the motors. I'm really starting to think that 4 out of 5 of my brand new drivers are the problem and that darn blue light means something bad.

As a follow up here. I contacted the seller of the TB6600 and explained that 4 out of 5 TB6600's were not working and showing a green plus a blue light and asked what the blue light was indicating. In response they said they'd ship me 4 new stepper drivers so I guess that means that the Blue light is not good.

Thanks for looking at this!

Blue light is OK on those drives, it goes on and off when stepping during normal work.
If they are the ones with a really small Toshiba chip with 109 at the end of the name, they are pretty nice and not easy to kill.
You should take the time and check them properly, before requesting RMA.

I didn't actually request an RMA. I just asked them what the blue light was and if it was the reason 4 out of 5 weren't working. Now that I have the 4 new ones I swapped them in and have the exact same issue. AARRUGH!

I took the 1 good driver I had and moved it to another motor and found it doesn't work. I took 1 of the "dead" drivers and put in on the X axis and it works. Son of a gun.

I swapped the wires between the a non working axis driver and the 7i96 to the working driver and the motor DOES NOT work. I could have sworn that I tested this before and it did work but I've tried so many combinations perhaps not.

Given that I've never done this before what can you guys suggest? I may have missed something major in my setup that leads to this.

Linux Mint running linuxCNC 4.9.0-13-rt-amd64
7i96 Mesa ethernet connected back to PC
default IP
Changed no settings on the 7i96
5v to Mesa
12v to drivers
wiring is using Cat5 ethernet cable.
drivers are 16 microsteps @1amp
I'll post a couple of pictures in a minute

I have not swapped the ethernet cable between the PC and controller.
Not seeing any errors anywhere
