single ended TTL versus differential quadrature encoder counts

when setting up the spindle encoder, if the encoder is TTL pushpull and my encoder is 4096 ppr, the calculator shows a 4x of the of the count, is that specific to differential encoders or to all quadrature encoders, I searched and got a answer that was, muddy at best. As the other encoder are 4096 ppr TTL single ended, when I go to configure those axis, I want to make sure my math is correct.

The 4X is for all quadrature counters TTL or differential.
This is because quadrature counters normally count on all 4 edges
( Rising and falling edges of A and B )

The TTL or differential connection just refers to the electrical
specifications of the encoder interface.

MPG counters sometimes use 1X mode so they end up with 1 count per
detent with 100 PPR encoders.

I thought that was how it read in the documentation, Thanks.
