PNCconf encountered and error when editing existing config file in Ver 2.9

Getting the following error when attempting to edit a file I just created:

Background:
First I create the configuration, then I save it.
I opened the Configuration and the file functions great. Moves the motors and everything.
But when I try to use the wizard to change the file, it works fine until it gets to the Mesa Card Section: ie just after I click "Forward" on the "External Controls" screen, the next one should be "Mesa Card 0"
That's when this error happens.

My particulars: LinuxCNC Version: 2.9.0~pre1 git20230208.f1270d6ed7
Debian 12, Bookworm (using Rod's pending new instructions, which are on their way to the main website)
I have a Mesa 7i96s.
When I set it up originally, it gave me the standard warning that there's no firmware in that firmware directory,
but I was able to query the card (Name=7i96s, Ethernet address = 10.10.10.10)
After that it brought in and configured the screens to enter the mesa parameters.

At the point of the error, and from these messages, it seems that it's in the process of trying to rebuild those mesa configuration entry screens and is losing its way.

I've attached the screenshot of the error and the pncconf file and the .ini and .hal files.

For the time being, I'm just going to have to manually edit the files, or redo the whole wizard, depending.

It would be nice to get it working.

Cheers

Hey thanks for the detailed report and the sample pncconf file.
I pushed a hopeful fix for this - worked in my testing anyways.

I am having the same or similar error on an existing config created earlier. I just installed Debian12 and linuxcnc from Debian on my RPi4. The config that is giving the error was created on an earlier version of 2.9pre on Bookworm. Do I need to compile 2.9 from git or are there .debs that I can install from.

Thanks in advance,
Alan

Unfortunately yes, if you need a later version of V 2.9 than what is in Debian Bookworm, you need to compile from source as there is no buidbot for  the Pi. eg. using GPIO will require build from source
