I can read French just well enough to know that the French documentation is very out of date.
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/index_fr.html
They also have a different structure to the English documents.
I would like to have three pages translated and up to date for the imminent release of LinuxCNC 2.8.
These pages are up to date, and ready for translation:
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-start...em-requirements.html
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-start...etting-linuxcnc.html
This page is a work in progress.
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-start...dating-linuxcnc.html
If you think you can help, then we can discuss the mechanics of the process here.

Ideally: Create a
Github
account, install git on your own computer, clone
LinuxCNC
and edit the files locally, before pushing back to your own account and making a pull request.
For small changes you can do it actually on the github web site (if you are logged in)
The actual files to edit are in asciidoc , and reasonably easy to read and edit.
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/2.8/do..._Requirements_fr.txt
should contain the same info as github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/2.8/do...tem-requirements.txt
(click on the "raw" button to see the text source file.)
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/master...ting-LinuxCNC_fr.txt needs to match
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/2.8/do...getting-linuxcnc.txt
(for some reason github displays that last file in the raw form)
If that is too hard, you can download and edit the files and email them to me. (I can get your email address from the user database)

So, I translated the first page: System_Requirements_fr.txt
I'm new to github, so bear with me.
I made an account, installed github desktop and atom, cloned, edited the file and made a fork.
To make a pull request I just have to do: repository -> pull ?

You need to start at github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc
Click the "Pull requests" area
Then "New Pull Request"
Then, in order to be able to see your own work, you will need to click on "compare across forks"
Then you can pick the base LinuxCNC repo and the 2.8 branch (make sure you choose the 2.8 branch, and make sure it stays selected as you make other selections!) and then your own repository and the branch you are working in, and then finally press the "Create Pull Request" button.

Merci!
Do you know if you will have the time to translate the other two files?
(The "Updating" file is now ready for translation).
If so, do you know when. I am very close to ready to release 2.8, but if we can hope to have some up-to-date French docs in the next few days then I can delay that long.

I'm currently doing the getting-linuxcnc file.
I will also do the "Updating" after, and others if needed.
I guess I could try to do this before the end of this month, I'm in holidays for 2 weeks after that anyway.
It's up to you to decide if you want to postpone; I can't promise anything, but will try.

I think it makes sense to not wait (many other releases have been made with very out-of-date French docs). There is certain to be a 2.8.1 a few weeks down the line.
