Axis startup in metric.

My mill is configured with imperial native units but I work exclusively in metric. When I start axis, I have to go to the View menu and select "display mm" or else the manual touch-off values I enter are in the wrong unit.

I see settings in the .ini file TRAJ section for linear_units but this seems to control the machine native units. How can I make axis start up in metric mode without converting the native units?

In your INI file under [DISPLAY] add

POSITION_UNITS = mm

I didn't test much but the display is set to metric
This seems undocumented

Using POSITION_UNITS = mm could lead to some confusion as it leaves the feed overrides in inch and also leaves the default units at G20. So if you do a G0 X25 expecting it to go 25mm you will be in for a surprise when it tries to go 635mm.

A much better solution is to use LINEAR_UNITS = mm and take the few minutes to convert your config to mm.

Would it also be a good idea in the [RS274NGC] Section of the ni file to add G21 ?

RS274NGC_STARTUP_CODE = G21
