Hi
Has anyone used an Itel atom D2700 iTx board. I am having problems finding the on board parport address. The bios does not show the address and the standard 0x378 does not seem to function.

Regards
Marius

Hi

Under BIOS > Advanced > Peripheral configuration make sure that the parallel port is enabled and set to ECP for steppers (unless you have Gecko 540s) and EPP for Mesa etc

I can't find a reference to the actual port address anywhere, but 0x278 is the other standard address

Entering cat /proc/ioports should show you what it is

I did the cat and it showed parport0 at 0x378 as well as at 0x778. Strange.
Parport1 is the pci and it shows at 0x1020 where it is working at the moment. I am using Big John's parport tester to see if it works.

One thing, the bios shows two options, either ECP or bidirectional. I take it that I have to select the bidirectional option for stepper?

No, select ECP, bi-directional is archaic.

I did the cat and it showed parport0 at 0x378 as well as at 0x778

You will have to play with both addresses, 0x378 sounds the most likely

loadrt hal_parport cfg="0x378 out 0x1020 in"
or
loadrt hal_parport cfg="0x778 out 0x1020 in"

I used this as well but dont get the port to respond. As I mentioned I use the parport_test from BigJohnT. I strapped a resistor from the output pin 8 to the input pin 11. When you toggle the output, the input should follow. It does so on the pci port. Should the on-board port be any different?

I would try 0x278 and 0x3BC as well

If the BIOS is anything like the D525 BIOS, it does _no_
parallel port setup regardless of what options you select
and every thing it reports about the port location and
mode is wrong

(Its like they changed the parallel port chip type but neglected to update the BIOS to match)

Damn, that does not sound too good. Well I have tried every possible address that I know of and some that was suggested here, but still no go.
The support on these Intel things are not that good.
How did you go about getting the 525 port to work?

IICRC the parallel port was at 0x378 and enabled but you could not
change the port mode or address via the BIOS
(well you could change the BIOS settings but they made no difference)

Might be interesting to see what 'legacy I/O' chip the D2700MUD uses

I think it uses the NM10 Express chipset. And it gives no info in the Bios either.

I sorted it out. The problem is that the onboard port does not seem to have any pullups. This means that the loopback test does not function as expected.
I plugged the BOB in and tested again. It works. This is only a problem on the onboard port but not the PCI port.
