Live cd problem was created by sgmans
Hello

I downloaded the live-cd demo and burned it to a disk

I tried to boot it from the cd and it went through the booting sequence but hung at a (dos prompt type window )

I tried it on another computer and it boot up fine all the way into where emc2 is located

Any ideas as to what happened

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hello Steven.

I had a similar problem in one machine, this could help..

Instead of running the option install ubuntu or try ubuntu directly, press F6 to activate "Other options", when you do that a command line will appear, and then type the following next to the command that already appeared..

vga=771 noapic nolapic

That worked for me because i had compatibility problems with my graphic card, and the GUI never started.

I hope i could help you.

Best regards.

Leonardo.

Hello Leonardo

thanks for the tip

I tried your suggestion however the screen just went blank after entering the command code

I built a brand new computer 2 days ago and wonder if the onboard graphics card is not supported by linux

Do yoy have any other suggestions?

If not I appreciate the help and I will continue to search for an answer

Thanks

Hello again Steven,

I'm not a linux expert so i'm not sure if it's the on board graphics the reason of the problem... i had a similar problem and the reason was my graphic card..

May be you can ask in the IRC channel or may be a regular ubuntu forum could be useful, some answers are already posted that's how i found the solution to my problem..

Sorry that i can't help you more than this.. but keep trying you'll find the solution.. i went thru many problems and doubts since i started with linux and as the days passed everything was easier..

Best regards.

Hello.

I have the same problem like Steven.
I've checked the Checksum from the downloaded iso. It's fine.
Also starting in secured graphic mode doesn't help.
Does anybody have an idea ?

Robert

In addition to the added commands noted above - REMOVE "Quiet Splash" THat way you will see all the startup scripts and if any - errors...

Thats how I finally was able to narrow down my first linux setup using the live CD.

The other alternative is to use a Live CD for Just Ubuntu. Once your running Ubuntu ok then use the scripts from the wiki to load EMC and the RT Kernel. Stuart Stevenson recommended that method since there is more support items to get things configured such as touch screens and other peripherals. I beilive I placed his emial description of this on the Wiki.
