EMC as a simulator

I understand now, to do that you would need a similar computer and machine to develop in your office then copy to your real machine in the basement.

If you have at least the second parallel port you could look at how the Axis sim fakes homing and limits in simulated_home.hal and simulated_limits.hal and keep any other simulation related items in a separate hal file so there is no chance for mistakes when copying to your real machine.
