64bit version of emc2 ?

is there a 64 bit version of emc2.4 ?
also, is there a hardware requirement for 64bit ?
i know i have a 32bit machine now, but do i have to change
some hardware to install 64bit os?

There is a 64 bit version on buildbot buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ that might be worth playing with. Your cpu would obviously need to be 64bit to run the 64bit os. It appears that some processors with many cores need to be booted in single or duel core mode.

Ubuntu10.04 Package Notes states: "official packages are currently available in 32-bit only, [buildbot packages] are available in 32- and 64-bit"
