Please help,

I had 11.10 64-bit installed OK then realised I couldnt get emc2 to run on there.

Both the emc2 livecd and vanilla 10.04 fail on installing GRUB.

I am going to try a BIOS upgrade to my LV-67EA to see if that helps.

Any help you can give is much appreciated. Is 11.10 support close?

Thanks.

Richard

EMC is only released on LTS Ubuntu so only 8.04LTS and 10.04LTS, so I assume the next one would be 12.04LTS.

You might do a google search for your hardware to see if there is an Ubuntu 10.04 workaround. Did you check the MD5SUM of the downloaded file?

Also you could try to install the RTAI kernel on your ( I assume you mean 10.10 as there is no 11.10 that I can find) 10.10 as described here.

wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?Installing_EMC2

It is not for the faint of heart but others have done it.

And the last option is to get hardware known to work with Ubuntu 10.04 like the D510MO and the D525.

I just peeked at your profile and we both have the same last name... wonder if we are related?

Hi John,

Awesome advice, thanks for that.

11.10 or Oneiric Ocelot is in Alpha release, I just had a CD lying around.

I will persevere with the LinuxCNC 10.04 LiveCD, if the BIOS update doesn't work, I will boot into a recovery mode and repair the GRUB issue manually.

How funny would it be if we were related, I was born in Scotland and moved to Australia when I was 28. I haven't looked back that far but my grandparents are a mix of English and Scottish.

Thanks again.

It's so hard to find the alpha release from the main Ubuntu page I totally missed 11.10.

My father came from North Carolina and I'm not sure when his ancestors came to America from England. Kinda hard to trace a poor dirt farmer from North Carolina.
