Troubles installing or booting10.04 from live CD

When trying to use the live CD to boot 10.04, I see the Ubuntu loading screen, followed by a light weight command line system called Busy Box where I can move around within the file system, but nothing to intensive. If i start with 10.04 Ubuntu and upgrade to EMC2 I get the same thing, and the error states:

missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
/dev/disk/by-uuid/... Does not exist
Starting Busy Box (or something like that)

Any clues how to fix this?

Hardware:
Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500
Motherboard: MSI Z68A-GD55 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
Graphics: SAPPHIRE 100314-3L Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda Green ST1500DL003 1.5TB 5900 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Both 10.04 and 8.04 versions boot into this command prompt when trying to load EMC2, but the regular versions of Ubuntu work fine.
Also, I can take the same CD and my laptop will boot it just fine all the way in, while my desktop returns these issues. I have tried the ignore ACPI fix, along with a couple of others that claim to fix the same issues with 10.10, but none of them work. I am really hoping to get this to work so I can work on my CNC machine research some more. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Well it looks like it is possible that linux with RTAI have an issue with the drive.

Couple of things you might consider..
If you are using the computer for researching EMC and are not going to hook it up to a machine you may want to start with a running 10.04 install and try installing EMC simulator which does not need RTAI.

You could also try loading the live CD from a usb device instead of the CD.
You may also have an issue with the multi core processors, take a look at isolcpus Boot parameter.

As a side note those computers have more power than EMC needs, and you may find it easier to load on an older computer you may have.

Still no luck with getting EMC2 to run on my computer. I tried setting that value to 1 with no luck. I am actually hoping to buy a desktop just for running my cnc machine.

Will this motherboard: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121442 be a good unit for running EMC2? I am actually looking to build 4 axis and lathe cnc machines to sell on a small scale for a reasonable price and need to know if this board will be a good one to run this software on. Thanks for your help.

Yes, it's perfect. Great latency, no coooling fan, cheap and compact.
Add a picoPSU and a small SSD (8GB is plenty) and you have a great performing embedded controller. You can use the onboard video with no problems too.

Yep that is a popular one here and tested to work with EMC, you will find more info on it in the forum as well as tuning advice.
