Hello,
I'm use the EMC2 in Ubuntu 8.04.
If I update the Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 or 9.04 the EMC2 will run after, Or only run in the 8.04?
Regards,
Tibi

The precompiled versions of emc2 are only compatible with Ubuntu 6.06 and Ubuntu 8.04. Upgrading to 8.10 will remove the emc packages and make your system unable to run emc.

Forget the binary versions of emc2, what if I down load the sources of EMC2 on 9.04 and recompile EMC2 will it work on 9.04? Anyone feel free, thanks in advance.

Or even just 8.04.2. I can't get Ubuntu installed on anything but that or above! Help!

I would say that no it won't work unless you have the RTAI kernel package

Sure, that will work.
But you need to rebuild the kernel on any linux version you're picking.
We need a rtai patched kernel (www.rtai.org), to be able to compile and run emc2.
So if you start with 9.04, you need to grab the sources from the kernel used in 9.04 (I think 2.6.29 or 30), then patch them according to the instructions from rtai, build a working kernel (usually after 2-3 attempts), and afterwards compile rtai, then grab the emc2 sources and compile/run them.
There are some instructions how to do this in the wiki at wiki.linuxcnc.org, however some might be older (out of date).

Alex

If you wish to build and install EMC2 yourself in Ubuntu 9.04 or 9.10 including the RTAI kernel patches, here's a HOWTO:
