I would like to develop and test Linuxcnc G-code routines on my laptop, which runs Ubuntu 20.4 with a 5.8 kernel. I use dedicated hardware to run my mill, hence I am just looking for a LinuxCNC simulator. Browsing I found the 'LinuxCNC Pure Simulator' page, but I assume that is obsolete as in only refers to Ubuntu 12 and earlier. The topic 'Linux Mint 20 quick and nearly easy install' in the forum seems to mainly deal with the real time kernel issues.

I look for a solution to use spare time on travel to work on G-code. Is there a .deb package that I could install that does not require dealing with major dependency issues, or - even better - a subset that only has AXIS and the G-code interpreter? (Alternatively, I could take a Raspberry Pi along of course).

Thanks, Robert

I dont think you need a RT kernel to run the simulator. Install linuxcnc and run the simulator.

Any stock kernel will work with a simulator.
