Hello.

I have installed ubuntu 8.04 on my computer with the emc live cd. Everything seemed to go well.
Now that I open up EMC2 with the Lathe_Pluto configuration, it terminates after an error. The log
is the following:

I have no previous experience with Linux, so if someone could help me figure this out I would
very much appreciate it.

Are you using an on board LPT port?
If so, is it setup in the BIOS for EPP mode?
Does it address match the address in the Pluto lathe HAL file?

Yes I am and it is on EEP mode. Dont know about the HAL file, but shouldnt EMC start without any error messages even if I dont have the card plugged in? I remember installing linux and playing around with EMC, at that time I didnt have the card yet.

No. EMC only starts up and shows the UI if everything in the HAL file initialises and works correctly.

Just about any problem in the HAL setup stage will quit EMC and show an error message. This is probably intended as a safety precaution, you can only run the machine if everything is working.

This is only true for configs with actual hardware, the sim configs should always start.
