Ubuntu/Gnome locking up after fresh install

Well, of course, I can't be satisfied so I decided to try the better suggestion in the 'axis locking up thread' and go back to the mga driver and install the software open gl and that solved the problem in MGA mode.

I think I'm happy now.

Thanks, I'm starting to understand monitor and driver specs a little bit more thanks to people like you. Further research led me to the little tidbit that vesa drivers are limited to 4:3 aspect ratios (which 1280x1024 is obviously not).

Going back to the mga driver and installing the open gl software gave me the best of both worlds (so far ).
