Hi,
I install emc by myself on ubuntu10.04,
But every time it needs to start from terminal, and also needs sudo permission.

How can I bring it to Application menu like when it installed from emc2_install.sh??

thanks in advance.

scripts/emcmkdesktop might do what you need.

The simplest way is to use the LiveCD to install EMC. Was there some reason to not use the LiveCD?

How did you install EMC?

Because I want to change the language and need to work with its codes. So I need to install it this way.
I installed it from source package.

to andy; thanks, I'll try that, but I think it won't work.

I successfully put it in Application menu, but still when running emc2, it start terminal first and need the permission.
How can I run it without terminal like when installed from live cd??

Did you do:
sudo make setuid
after compiling?

Just to recap did you install EMC on a stock Ubuntu 10.04 install following these instructions

wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?Ins...EMC2#On_Stock_Ubuntu

Or did you get the source with git?

No, I didn't use emc2-install.sh as it described in that wiki.

First I downloaded the 15mb source, I think from git, then installed all the required myself.

Then you should be able to build following these instructions

wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?Ins...ilding_emc2_realtime

and run following these instructions

wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?Ins...ng_EMC2#Running_emc2

Also you need to run emc once and pick a config to set up the directories on your computer.

Yeah, I've done that part before and it worked just fine,

But what I wanted was to run it from a kind of shortcut, which I could not do before.

By the way, now it's solved and run from menu without terminal.
But I don't know what happened exactly:unsure:
I just try what Andy pointed to, and then put emc2 in menu like before.
Thanks all.
