I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 and then EMC2.
I have the problem no signal in parallel port.
I try to follow instruction to install a parallel port, but when in a terminal I type "loadrt hal_parport cfg"
I have this message: "Command loadrt not found"
What must do to find the command "loadrt"?

The loadrt command only works when you have HAL running. So you have to start HAL first. Unless there is something unusual your attempting to do the LiveCD is the easiest way to get get EMC up and running.

Generally the "loadrt" command goes in a .hal file which is read by EMC2.

You _can_ run hal from the command line, if you want, by prefixing with halcmd "halcmd loadrt hal_parport….." or you can start up the realtime system and get a hal "shell" by typing halrun.

However, I don't think you really want to do either of those. I think you want to run stepconf and let the software set up your basic configuration for you.

(you can either type "stepconf" at the command line, or use the CNC menu.)

Thank you for information.
In effect following your instruction I have used the command "loadrt hal_parport ... "but after I have the message "need to install kernel module.
I try to make "stepconf". But I save a new step configuration, but the connection betwenn the computer and the step motors does not run. When I load emc2 I have the Axis display but I am not able to move
the step motor.
Can you help me how I can install kernel modul or how I have the step motor working?
Many thanks in advance

Can you post the output of dmesg?

You shouldn't need to load any kernel modules, it should all just happen automatically when you start Stepconf or EMC2.

it looks on the surface that the real time driver is not installed , this can be down to a bad hal configuration , or something misspelt , did you use stepconf or hand edit the hal configuration
afterwards ? ,

post your hal file
