I was trying to move your post to a new thread and botched it up.

Anyway you can not run EMC on 9.10 unless you compile a new something or other for real time and if your not a super linux programmer you will not get there by luck alone. EMC is compiled to run only on the long term support versions of Ubuntu 6.06 and 8.04.

A little googling of the EMC wiki pages and I found this link for a virtual machine.

Normally if your actually controlling a CNC machine you use a stand alone computer just for that. If your just wanting to play with the sims then if you can get a virtural machine to run you can do that or just boot from the live cd and run the sims.
