Switching to Gmoccapy?

I am brand new to Linux CNC. I did not realize till late that there are alternatives to the default GUI. Gmoccapy looks interesting.

I found the wiki page but I have some confusion. First it says that Gmoccapy is included in the standard installation. I just dowloaded Linuxcnc so does that mean there is nothing for me to download?

Next it says so change the DISPLAY setting in "the INI file" to DISPLAY = gmoccapy. What INI file? Where is it located?

When you create a new machine a set of files are created to configure it.
Look for ...
linuxcnc
configs
my_LinuxCNC_machine

Look for a folder with the name of the machine you created.

You can also select a sample configuration that uses Gmoccapy to try it.

Thanks so much for an answering all of my dumb questions!

It was so obvious after you mentioned it. :) I wish that was mentioned in the wiki.

My buttons don't work. Guess I need to read the documentation to remap them.

But it might be moot as I have an old 15 inch display for my machine and I don't seem to have enough resolution to display the whole screen so I might need to switch back to axis.

A 15 " display shoul be able to make 1024 x 768 Pixel, that is more you need!

Minimum resolution is 979 x 750 Pixel!

And please do not use the WIKI, please use the actual documentation Docu for 2.7 branch

I could include the location of the files in the doku, but that information is also included in getting started ;-)

You say the buttons don't work, could you explain what you mean?

And don't give up, we are here to help.

Thanks Norbet. The bottom part of the display is chopped off. I only see the very top of the icons on the bottom of the display.

Try to change to fullscreen view. Just go to the settings page and set the corresponding check box.

What resolution are you running the display?
