What computer can I buy that will run PathPilot? was created by djstorm100
I'm looking to buy a PC so I can run PathPilot. For the cost of $715 I could come in cheaper with Mesa card, Path Pilot and the actual cost of the computer with a better computer compare to what Tormach offers. Atleast this is what I'm hoping.
Path Pilot restore DVD comes with Linux but I'm curious as to what computer tower I can buy that will run this reliability.
Also looking for Touch Screens.
Thanks in advance for your help.

What do you mean about "PP".
As standart you can use any computer. Only be sure not to use GeForce video card, because you cnc will not work properly.
Also forum have specdial topic for such questions

Generally any PC can be used with a few caveats
1. The tormach PC used the Intel HD Graphics so stick to that
2. PP is a 32bit linux distro so memory above 4G is not used, don't waste your money on memory
3. PP uses a 5i76 Mesa card this makes changes easier but it is linuxcnc under the covers so you can use any motion controller including a parallel port.
4. be ready to learn linux CNC to get it to work.
5. refer to #4. its 2am time for a little humor
seriously though, learning linuxcnc and the hal and ini files will help allot.
it's (to me anyways) not that complicated.
get basics working first then add on stuff as needed

Thank you. Is the Card 5i25 by chance? Nothing is pulling up for a 5i76 but a 7i76 is.
I'm taking classes at local community college for CNC machining (Haas). I've never ran Linux OS so I'm really out of my element regarding this. Windows and Apple OS's I'm dangerous enough to get by.
When you say "Get ready to learn LinuxCNC" what exactly do you mean? Learning Path Pilot?
Would this CPU work? Its a 1150 socket so I assume that its a H81? www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883797537

I used GIGABYTE GA-N3050N-D2P
www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-N3050N-D2P-rev-10#ov
The processor is much slover then yours and it gived me 12000Hz on latency test. It seems that yours will also work but You don't need to buy PC with OS Windows. You will need to install there Linux Debian or Ubuntu.

it will not support the 5i25 MESA card as it has no internal PCIe slots and it doesn't have a parallel port so no that one will not work

yes, sorry i meant the 5i25 card.
the typical combo is the 5i25/7i76 though other combos will work
By learning LinuxCNC I mean leaning LinuxCNC which PathPilot is based on.
you'll have to modify the HAL/INI files to match your setup and while you can get help here of course it best to learn what you're changing so you understand it if things go wrong

Parallel port I though was just off the Mesa card to the Tormach mill/lathe.
When I talked to Tormach they stated with the recover disk, Linux and PathPilot are on. It was simple as installing and then selecting what machine you have (1100,770,440, lathe).
