Turns out updating Mesaflash isn't as simple as I thought it was.... missing dependency Libmd. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get this installed. I do not know what repo to add to find it, and it doesn't seem to be in the standard repos. I believe PP2.0 is built on LinuxMint 17.3, Jessie...

Thanks Tommylight, unfortunately, this didn't solve the issue... mesaflash says it needs libmd still

Okay, I was able to get an older version of libmd installed from that ftp site. I just had to use an older version. Now that that is installed, mesaflash is installed, and now my ethernet port is non-responsive. I'm gonna work on that now.

Well, one step forward, two steps back. I restored the eth0 connection, replaced the mesaflash that came in pathpilot, and... lost a feature of the original mesaflash. Looks like --query used to be a function of mesaflash, but is no longer. is there a replacement for querying the board to find out what it is? Right now PP issues a "sudo mesaflash --query --addr 10.10.10.10 --verbose" but the query is not an option of mesaflash 3.5.5, foolishly, I didn't check what version of mesaflash was included in PP before overwriting it, so I may have to reinstall PP entirely.

--query was never a function of stock mesaflash, it must be something Tormach added
Best would be to edit the PP startup script so it doesn't use mesaflash at all
(since its a bit crazy to mess with firmware in a startup script)

That's a much better idea than the wall I've been beating my head against

okay, I'm getting further. Now LinuxCNC starts to load when the board fails "HM2 registration", then rtapi_app_main: Invalid argument (-22), then some other fails and it shuts down. I came to realize that PP2 is based on Linuxcnc2.8.0~pre1 and support for the 7i97T was added to 2.9.1. I wonder if there's a way to upgrade the background linuxcnc version to 2.9.1?
