Interesting idea, but the slide / clamp control on the purpose-made items is a pretty important feature.

I agree. And I haven’t even used one.

I’d like one that has tweezers, side cutters, paste solder, and wire pen all in one tool.

And if you be careful it keeps the rounded "ball-hole" and does not harm the laker.

This is getting increasingly off-topic, but I did hear a suggestion of using a hypodermic needle as the nozzle, specifically so that the tip can also be used to cut the wire by pushing against the board.
