If you toggle the direction pin does the stepper step once?

No it does not. So it seems like an electrical problem

And the parallel port is now displaying a signal correctly after a computer restart.

Hi cncbasher,

Here are the files. It is for a standard syil setup.
I installed windows and the Mach3 trial and am planning on scoping the waveform that Mach generates in order to find some values I can use in LinuxCNC.

I'm able to run fine with Mach installed but emc is still giving me trouble. On my scope, the step signal in stepconfig is similar to the signal from mach, but it doesn't move the machine when plugged in. When running the full emc program (with the e-stop pin flipped to let it run w/out the machine) the signal looks very different from the stepconfig signal. The low dwell time is significantly shorter than the 2 us dwell time of both the emc and stepconfig signals, and the high time is much longer.

I'll get more precise information on it tomorrow but for now, is there any reason the signal from stepconfig could look different from the full emc signal? And is there any reason the signal from Mach works while the similar stepconfig signal does not?

I'm assuming I made a fundamental mistake somewhere since I don't know a whole lot about this program yet. If there's any easy thing i could have messed up it's entirely possible that I messed it up!

The Stepconf wizard by default enables "double step" which gives you a step pulse every period. In your ini file look for "setp parport.0.reset-time 5000" and try commenting out that line with a "#" and see if that helps. I'm not 100% sure that is all you need to do but think so.
