Oh I see what you are saying now. Yeah, apparently vino doesn't work under hardy, because I cannot get it to serve with the built in remote desktop at all. So I have tried all sorts of different options and none of them seem to work at all. Sad days.

I switched my old machine to Lucid last night (using the LiveCD) and got a significant improvement in latency. So I am rather pleased.
This is an old 32-bit Xeon box. (dual 2.8GHz "Prestonia") so has to be around 10 years old).

I found that hardy was giving me consistent sub 10k latency while lucid was giving me 20k spikes... i'd love to run lucid for so many reasons.......

The kernel that Lucid/LinuxCNC_2.5 comes with supports dual processors, so if you have an SMP system you might find that the best results are obtained with Hyperthreading off and isolcpus set.

Incidentally, the 2.5 installer lets you re-partition, to I have a Hardy/2.5 and a Lucid/2.5 partition and can dual boot if I need to.

It's an AMD XP system so I dont think that applies
