ok so now you know it's something to do with the MPG.
Could be connected to wrong physical pins for the encoder number you want.
Again you can use halmeter to check all the Mesa encoder counter pins (hm2_7i96s.0.inm.00.enc0-count etc) to see if any count up and down with the MPG.

Could be physically wired wrong or something wrong with the MPG it's self.

As it look to me is working, all Mesa encoder counter pins and what they do is below.

Warning: Spoiler!

Is there no pin named as such or similar?
hm2_7i96s.0.inm.00.enc0-count

in your custom.hal file you have this line:

net encoder-counts <= hm2_7i96s.0.inm.00.enc0-count

which is not the right encoder pin.

It seems this would be the right pin:
net encoder-counts <= hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.count

Not sure why it didn't error though.

I can't express how much i thank you!!
It works with only the change you mention.

Should we move this topic back to "driver board", leave it here or move it somewhere else?
Thank you.

Yeah would fit better in a driver sub-forum.
