So you turf the controller, and save just the motors and drivers if possible and connect it all up with linuxcnc and probably a mesa card. That will give you 9 axes.

Linux is not the same as linuxcnc which is a motion controller application which runs on Linux. (Like mach3 runs on Windows).

Its possible in the very early days Galil might have supported EMC because Mach and EMC shared the same government developed motion controller when it was given to industry. But certainly if Galil can't produce a driver, I'm sorry but you are on the wrong forum.

galil does produce a driver.....

As Rod already explained, they may have a driver for 'Linux', which is an operating system, but 'Linuxcnc' (formerly known as EMC(2)) is the application that turns the computer into a controller.
If you want to keep the Galil controller then you don't need or even want LinuxCNC.

Maybe Galil could tell you more.

Even Mach basically bypasses the motion control part and just tells the galil where to go next... I understand the concept of motion controller controlling motion controller... Its messy! But in the cas of Mach, They made it work.... The issue I have with mach, is that it is only good for 4 axes! Moreover again EMC used to support Galil! Why does it not work now!?

Is there any documentation for this?

I can see that i am just burning my wheels with nowhere to go....

Can anyone reccommend me an open source way to interpret g-code and have a gui for the galil?
