Interesting. I guess I could machine a test bar and measure with with a mic at several Z data points. I will probably never do this. I am currently using dial indicators on the Z and dials on the X. It works good enough for +/-.005.
The only other place I would see this as an issue is when doing a ball or socket. I've never done a ball and socket on my lathe, not to say that I did not have a need. There are, however, other ways to get there.
