5i22 configuration problems

Hy Guys,

I am in the progress of setting up an old Deckel FP42NC with linuxcnc.
Because there are a lot of I/Os on this machine I decided to take the Mesa 5i22 which has 4 Sockets for the AIO Cards .
At the moment I connected 1x 7i33 to the first socket and 3x 7i37 to the other three, for the I/O s.

In Pncconf i took the SVST8_8 firmware and changed it to 4 PWMGen and 4 Encoders -> 0 StepGen.

The Problem is, that when I am on the pages for configuring the PWM/Encoder and the I/O s, and I click on the button " Test Panel" on the bottom of the page, it opens the Test Panel for a few seconds but then it shows a message to shut down ubuntu (normal shut down page) but when I press cancel it still shuts the pc off ... I cant do anything to stop it.

So I cant test my I/O s :S

And the Button " Test Panel" is visible only on 2 of the 3 I/O Pages.. On the last it is visible but light grey and cant be clicked is this normal ?

Maybe i took the wrong firmware ?

Hopefully you can help me :(

Sorry for my english , i´m a german speaker :)

if pncconf does not work you can always try the sample configs (there is one for 5I22 and servo) and edit the HAL file by hand

Hmmm but there is no sample hal file for a 5i22 with 3 I/O cards isnt it ? :side:

Is there a other way to check the status with colored circles like in the test panel ?
poorly the testpanel from anderswallin is just for the 5i20...

The sample file will do, it simply has no connections or setup for the GPIO

You can read inputs via the hal show configuration menu in axis
and setup outputs with the setp commands in the little command window of the show hal configuration pane

Sorry the 'test panel' is pretty broken - I thought I disabled it.
there is a technical difficulty I can't seem to over come so I will abandon it - which is a shame.

The openloop test and or the stepper tuning test should work fine.

Hi hardware_crash

I had some problems testing my 7i43

So I wrote som pretty crude Excel dor generate small pure I/O test confuration.

In the very first row in "define" you can choose if you want to se input or output.

Copy and paste from the other directly into the linu^xcnc HAL and XML files...

For sure you must modofy, see it as starter.

Hope it helps you a bit to spare time.

Mike

Interesting Mike.

The problem I was having is launching the test inside PNCconf.
You can do it once but it never removes the HAL component properly without closing PNCconf.
When you launch it again it crashes PNCconf.
Since I gave up trying to make it work the test code has bit rotted to the point it probably doesn't work at all now....

Yes cmorley

I also gave up and started writing by hand. And for fast HW test I only need simple, uggly screen.

Don't get it wrong:
Pncconf is a very nice tool .... only it has some edges....
F.X it is not doing correct in my case as I use minus values for the lower limit.

Yes PNCconf unfortunately does not get tested enough before release.
It couldn't. For what ever reason we didn't have a 'official stabilizing time' for our major release.
lots of stuff got added for Mesa fairly close to release and I am the only tester aside form pre-release users.
I try to fix the bugs as fast as I can when they are found....

Anyways please explain your problem with PNCconf. Minus values for what lower limit?

Thanks Chris M
