I tried to run LinuxCNC under Ubuntu 10.04 but would not run in the demo mode nor in the installed mode. I got the attached error file. This same disk was used to install on another computer which runs fine. Any suggestions.

Nothing attached.

Save it as a .txt extension and try again

Looks like the common LAPIC issue:

[ 0.000000] Local APIC disabled by BIOS -- you can enable it with "lapic"
[ 0.000000] APIC: disable apic facility

see:

wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Troubl..._t_run_missing_lapic

for possible fix

gksudo gedit

That will open gedit in sudo mode, so it can edit any file.

It still says
"[ 0.000000] Local APIC disabled by BIOS -- you can enable it with "lapic""

Did you remember the sudo update-grub part of the process?

Have you actually tried enabling it in the BIOS?

You still don't have LAPIC available

Local APIC disabled by BIOS -- you can enable it with "lapic"
[ 0.000000] APIC: disable apic facility

[ 319.526466] RTAI[hal]: ERROR, LOCAL APIC CONFIGURED BUT NOT AVAILABLE/ENABLED.

What computer is this?

If it is an older one you would be better using 8.04 and the LAPIC issue does not arise
