getting closer to sawdust. Just not there
Getting an Unexpected Realtime Delay message in axis. No motor movement.
Do I need to work on the latency test? What is the best way to do it?

There are a couple of latency tests, one on the menu and one you can run from a terminal. Open a terminal and run latency-histogram. Let it run for at least an hour. Don't run LinuxCNC at the same time as a latency test.

That message is information only. It's a concern, but won't stop the machine running.
Have you taken Axis out of e-stop and turned it on? (top left pair of buttons, or F1 then F2)
If the motors turn freely when Axis in on, and there is no movement in Axis then this may well be the amp-enable signals (though the wiring diagram shows the amp-enables of the drives unconnected. The stepconf axis test does not toggle the amp-enable signals, but the final configuration produced does (but of course, this can only have any effect if the enables are wired up)
The wiring diagram suggests that the amp-enables are 5V for on (or disconnected for on), ie apply 0V to ENA- to turn off the drive.

taking Axis out of e-stop or turning it on worked!
Just need to tweak my settings. I have it microstep set to 8. I thinking going down to 4 for x and y. X and Y seem a little choppy. Any ideas on how to smooth them out?
Thanks!

You could try lower acceleration numbers.
