Properly Installing Linuxcnc as a Bootable USB

I am building another plasma machine soon. I have previously built them with linuxcnc and have used a bootable USB drive to operate it all. Though I believe when I downloaded and set up linuxcnc it want complete.

often I had some files missing for basic operation causing a lot of issues with adding and altering programs. A lot of times things would be missing or off after I configure my machine ini wise. Also I would run into some odd errors.

for this machine I have a lot of time to figure everything out, with that said, how do I create a linuxcnc based bootable USB that is perfectly complete or proper? Or how do I avoid an incomplete installation?

i will be using the following sheetcam, Inkscape, hyperthem45, mesa7i76e, thcad-10, proximity sensors, and enclosed loop motors

Normal install on a USB is very slow.
To safely install on a USB drive as a full install:
-remove any hard drives or SSD or NVME from the PC
-insert the USB containing the burned ISO
-boot from it, start the installation
-before proceeding, insert the other USB
-now proceed as normal
-
Do not use USB drives with the same size to easily differentiate what is what.

The stock LinuxCNC distribution is built with live-build. You could clone this git repository:
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc-live-build
and edit the package list:
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc-live-build/...e-lists/desktop.list

I have forgotten the actual command to build the .ISO file. something like
lb config
lb build

I can check my notes when I get home if you want to go this route.

Would it be better to set it all up on a hard drive? The point of me trying to do it on a usb would be that it’s easier to replicate. Or so I think

What I described was how we create the bootable "LiveCD" image which includes both a usable disk image _and_ the installer to copy that to a PC.
If you simply want to create a disk image without the installer then there are likely to be better and easier choices. (I just don't know what they are)

Well, essentially what I plan on doing is creating a computer that I design and calibrate as a base model for all my future machines. I want to get everything exactly how I want it even with sheet cam and all. Then I’ll be able to just clone the whole set up and keep this computer as a continual base. I want to keep adding and perfecting it as well. So whatever will work best for that.

i need a monitor and a power cord then I’ll be able to start setting it up
