What is the best hardware/chipset/mfr to Install the Ubuntu/EMC2 LiveCD?
AMD/Intel?
Any particular video cards to stick to/stay away from?
I'm building a new PC to replace my old Win2K laptop for my Plasma table, any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The Atom D510MO seems to be well liked and cost effective too.

How do most people vent for heat in the computer box? With filters and fans?
I wonder about maintaining the integrity of the motherboard/etc in that tough environment.
Thanks

Years ago, I built a custom computer for my first EMC system, that was about 1998. I used a computer-type fan with a bezel and screen salvaged from some old gear. I added a foam filter sold at the hardware store for replacement for window air conditioners. It is about a 1/8" thick open-cell foam. This worked well, and when that computer was retired, the inside of the box was still very clean. The fan blew air into the enclosure, so it pressurized the box to prevent ingress of dirt.

I was able to downlevel python to 2.5.5, still getting same error.
I guess I will just download the Live-CD provided on this site.
Anyone had similar issues trying to install the packages separate?

I always start with the LiveCD and only go other routes if the particular computer has problems with loading from the LiveCD.

As for cooling the D510MO is a fan-less motherboard and could be in a sealed box I assume so long as the ambient temperature is not too high. Also it has built in video so no video card is needed. I built a complete D510MO system with19" monitor, 4gb memory, 800gb hard drive and dvd drive for $350 a couple of weeks ago then saw on NewEgg a special that would have saved me $25 more on the motherboard/memory combo. With the "green" hard drive this system is totally quiet as long as the DVD drive is not reading a disk.

My latency running for 24 hours has never reached 10,000 on the D510MO

First time I tried the LiveCD I got an error on install and failed.
I'm trying again but I burned a second cd and both show 1 error on disc before I even install?

Did you burn it as an image and not just copy the files like is explained in the getting started guide?
