I have 7i95T + 7i78 as I need 7 axis to control (closed loop) + 1 pwm for spindle.
Which firmware is preferred in this case? Should I use the one that configures joint 5 on 7i95T as a pwm output and then use 2 axis on 7i78?

Do you need PWM or analog for the spindle?

If analog then using the 7I78s analog output would be best.

Here is 7I95T firmware for a 7I95T +7I78: (10 stepgens, 7 encoders, 3 sserial channels, analog spindle out on 7I78)

VFD only works with 0-10V so I planned to use PWM signal to voltage converter.
Does 7i78 output 0-10V analog directly?

The 7I78 has a PWM to isolated analog output circuit.
It does require an external 10V source. Normally the VFD
supplies this. (its commonly used for the potentiometer)

This are terminal connections on VFD:

So proper solution would be to take +10V Reference output on VFD, connect it to SPINDLE+ on 7i78 and Local voltage speed reference input (A1) on VFD and connect it with SPINDLE- on 7i78?
Any need to connect also 0V COMMON from VFD?

A1 goes to AOUT (or spindle out) on Mesa.
0V common goes to spindle-.
