How have you installed your linuxcnc?

If synaptic does not show updates fot linuxcnc, may be you haven't set the sources correct.

I am using Debian Stretch rt-preempt
When I try to upgrade with synaptic package manager I get this:Could not download all repository indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.
GPG error: linuxcnc.org stretch InRelease: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 3CB9FD148F374FEFThe repository ' linuxcnc.org stretch InRelease' is not signed.

Can you access pages in the internet, as it might be also a network probelm.

What about:

ping www.google.de

Yes I do have internet access and was able to browse without issue.
I will try tommy's suggestion below and get back to you guys.
