The RK3588 is a hell of a CPU. The S version is slightly cut down but not in any way that should matter for most machine stuff. Orange Pi 5 is probably the lowest priced device using a 3588, be great if it had a 2nd ethernet port.Orange Pi 5 4GB RK3588S US $68.00 + $12 shipping, in stock

Did anyone try using android TV boxes for this?
Today i found some in a local shop that caught my eye, they had Alwiner 616 plastered all over the box, with 32 or 64 GB of space for 60 and 65 Euro respectively. No info on the amount of RAM.
Should i get one or is it a no go?

Thats a pretty fun idea. Personally Im banking on the H616 working because I already have a CB1 which uses a H616 but I havent tested it out yet. Probably best to check online if the model in stores has a linux build for it. They usually do, but its probably worth it to check.

Integrated NIC so good as an Rpi4 alternative. No idea how well they did a job on the kernel or u-boot on an Android TV box and if the box lets you easily modify them.

Yeah, thats really the key. Im not too deep in the whole rooting/jailbreaking thing, but what I usually do is search it on line by brand name or by printed pcb name etc, then find if there is someone loading some kind of kodi/xbmc thing, which usually means a linux thing. One thing I did find, is if no one is doing it, theres probably no uboot/dbts(?) thing to make the linux. That phone forum xbm something like that, their forum usually has the linux stuff for android things

Is there a master list of these SBC options?
There are several threads that explore the options and make them work etc. but is there a list of "these work" boards?
I was going to buy a small desk station like others have done but I really like the idea of these little SBC offerings to run my plasma table build.
I am not a code/software guy, I can get by with reading instructions and putting PC's together etc. but that is about the limit of my knowledge.
Most of these threads are over my head a fair bit.

You already found this post from the beginning of this forum:

Unfortunately for you the closest is the difficult or expensive to find Rpi4 + Mesa FPGA over Ethernet.
forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/44828-rem...ernet-nvem-cnc-board might be another option depending on how much work that you wish to do.
