Did you just upgrade from 2.3 to 2.4?

I am using 2.4.6.

I think it did update from 2.4.3 as this was the version on the ubuntu-emc install disk.

Updating from 2.4.x to 2.4.6 should not break anything.

So does Axis run sometimes and sometimes not, not at all, ran for a few months then quit etc?

Remove the line "NML_FILE = emc.nml" from the [EMC] section of your Mantis9.ini file.

I'm not sure why Step Configure Wizard put that in there... was the config files from 2.3?

I ran your config after removing that line with no problem... so you have some other issue

hmmm

Clear dmesg then run your config from a terminal window then pipe dmesg to a file and attache it.

You can see how to do all that in the Getting Started Manual.
