I am thinking of going down this route with the 5i25 and the 7i76 but I have noticed that there is a 7i76 E is this supported with linuxcnc or am I better sticking to the 7i76.

I want o run a small lathe and mill using a total of 5 axis and I don't have enough I/0 with the pp setup I have already.

Thanks Clive S

The 7i76E is supported in version 2.7. It only works with the RT-PREEMPT kernel (as far as I know) and probably counts as experimental still.
However, it can be made to work with LinuxCNC.

[Edit] Actually I need to check that

I am assured that hm2_eth supports all the Mesa Ethernet cards.

www.linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/man/man9/hm2_eth.9.html

You would need the "uspace" version:
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Uspace

You can get the uspace version of LinuxCNC 2.7 from the buildbot:
buildbot.linuxcnc.org/
But you may have to guess the incantation. You might as well go with Master, really.

Thanks again Andy, but I think the water may be a bit too deep to tread in at my level. Clive S

What OS and kernel are you currently using? (And where did it come from?)

I installed from here www.linuxcnc.org/index.php/english/download 2.6 then updated with sudo apt and it brought it up to version 2.8.0

is this what you are asking?

In that case you might well be almost ready-to-go with hm2_eth and the 7i76E

What does "uname -a" say?
