Retrofit of Precix 5x10 CNC

I would try to reuse the old motors. drives and power supplies. They were all chosen to work together for your machine application by a trained engineer (we hope), and should be properly tuned for your machine already. I would guess just from looking at them that they are Copley amps that take analog signals (75% sure) and would work excellent with Mesa 7i77 setup. But I would still want to lfind the part numbers and look up the manuals for them to be sure before ordering parts.

The old control motherboard and the other cards in the box are a much bigger question mark, but they are most likely useless for Linuxcnc.

Becins, Did you order those motors from China?

Only problem I have is that I am incredibly impatient. Is there a US source?
Actually got a couple projects that I would like to use CNC for, but are way past due. I am working on figuring things out, but I would love to get this machine up and running soon.

Thanks for any input!

Thanks Todd, I will get those drives out and get some good photographs. I'd love to get the 7I92M +7I77 combo and be in business with LinuxCNC!

I like your idea about the replacement of the motors too. If I went with those I would need the 7i77? or the step/dir controller?

Ya, they put everything in that box... computer/cpuPSU/drivePSU/drives... pretty crowded. So I am going to take cpu stuff out and then just have a stand alone computer. Ethernet wire or db25 connecting them. Should give it some space.

Yes, I use 5i25 7i77 withthe servos. You can use ethernet if you choose though.

Had them in a 2 weeks. I just bought 7 from them and got them for 165.00 each servo/motor/cables.

Check and see if your Z axis motor has a brake though. You can get the servos with a 24VDC brake.

Thanks Bevins,

I think I am going to order the 7i77 and then if the drives/motors aren't compatible, I will probably buy some motors like you suggested, i'd still prefer a USA source, just to my impatience.

Yes, I believe the Z has an elecric brake, so will have to find that one.

only reason for not going with 7i77 is I went with steppers, right? and I will probably stay with servos.

Thanks everyone!

I still gotta get part number, but the cnc is located in a place I don't have tools... so now I gotta get some tools there to start checking it out. Thanks
