Hi Guys, anyone have time to give me a hand?
Back trying to figure this thing out. Had some heart problems, got a stent put in, at it once again!
So I cleaned out the controller and got the 7i92/7i77 mounted in there. I left the PC power supply in there and jumpered it to supply 5V for the 7i92 and flipped the jumpers on both units to supply the 7i77 with 5v from that connection.
That's all I have done. I got to admit, hooking up steppers seems pretty simple to me, this is a bit more complex.
Anyone recommend any resources for learning out to connect these parts?
Before I start getting into each connection, I kind made a basic overview, if anyone could tell me if I am way off or not, I'd appreciate it!
Issues that I am having is:
I don't know what encoder wires are what, there are 9 wires coming from encoder and I haven't been able to find a manual or reference for them.
The Analog interface TB5 [0] has 4 pins for an output, but the amplifier has 16pins, so I am guessing I missing something there. Unless the encoder feeds into 7i77 and Amplifier?
The manauls for 7i92 and 7i77 are very clear, it's just the other equipment I am not sure how connect.
AS always, thanks for any input.

Does the 7i77 get 5volts from 7i92? I usually use 5i25 and supply 5v to 7i77.
I am using 7i92 with 5i25 and set 5i25 for external 5v, but if 7i92 can supply it i will just have to wire one 5volts. Didnt think of that one. Thanks

supplying 7I77 5V from FPGA card is not recommended with a 5I25/7I77 due to drop
in the connecting cable, but with a directly connected 7I92M Its probably OK.
Note that there are not really16 inputs on the drives that are actually used,
maybe only 6-8 (the flat cable looks like only 6/8 pins)
This is a case where you should look very carefully at the original connections
and the legend silk screened on the drives and make a table.
The drives definitely do not have an encoder input. They also appear to be run in torque mode,
judging by the motors (they do not seem to have tachometers installed)
This (torque or velocity mode) could be determined with certainty by a careful checking
of what drive signals are connected.
So as the first order of business I would suggest making a table of what drive pins are actually connected.

Good advice as always guys...
PCW I can easily run 5v to 7i77, would that be best practice?
I don't want to take any chances on hurting this board.
The old boards that the encoders go to didn't have any info on them, but I carefully took note of how I dismantled it, so I could reconstruct it if need be.
You are correct that not all of the pins are used, and I think one of them is just jumpered. I think it's the fault pin. I will check when I am at shop next. Sucks not being located same place as unit is, or not having internet at shop.
Here is my wiring diagram so far, just got a start on it:
I put little boxes by each PIN that had a wire connected to it.

Contact magmotors with pics of motors and infoplate. I am pretty sure they would help you get pinouts.

Thanks bevins, I just emailed them.
I also found this in a PDF manual of a really nice looking replacement controller. Which if I had a bigger budget and saw before I started doing this I might have looked into...
It's dead on with the pins, and colors match up except for the pin 2/3 yellow brown.
Does anyone know of a way to test these wires to see if I can figure them out without destroying the encoder

The encoder colors look reasonable.
Its possible to verify power and ground before connection by taking the encoder
cover off and checking the power pins of the chips/bypass capacitors with an
ohmmeter.
As far as drive wiring goes
I do expect you will have to ground ( to pin 10) the drives
/POS ENABLE and /NEG ENABLE pins

5i25 or 6i25 powering 7i77 through the parallel cable, had only one instance of it not working due to crappy cable quality, changed the cable, works properly. BUT, since that issue i tend to power 7i77 from a USB cable, not through parallel cable.

Use USB cable to power 7i92M, also set jumpers to power 7i77 mounted directly to 7i92M, works always.supplying 7I77 5V from FPGA card is not recommended with a 5I25/7I77 due to drop
