Hurco BMC 30 AP was created by 5_Zylinder
Hello,

I'm from Germany and last year I bought a Hurco BMC 30 AP CNC milling machine with a4th axis that I want to convert to Linux CNC. In the past I have already converted 2 older CNC machines to Mach3, but I was never satisfied with Mach3.
Now I would like to try Linux CNC, but it will be a longer project because I currently have no experience with Linux (CNC).

The machine has an Ultimax 3 control.
The servo motors and drivers are from Yaskawa and I would like to continue using them, so I bought a Mesa 7i97.
In the future I will still install glass scales.

Here are a few pictures, does anyone have a circuit diagram of this machine?

greetings

Stefan

It looks like a nice machine.

If no-one finds a circuit diagram, then you can probably find all that you need to know from the Yaskawa manuals.

Does the machine run at the moment?

The machine is currently not working.
I cleaned them up and some parts got a new colour.

I have already downloaded and looked at the Yaskawa manuals.
The exact process of the tool change would be interesting, in another thread I read that the circuit board for the tool changer should be retained, a circuit diagram would be interesting for this, because I want use them.

We are currently removing the old electronics, then I install the Mesa card and then we will rewire everything

Hi,
I retrofitted a BMC20 about 6-7 yrs ago
Mine had FANUC motors and drives. You should not have much trouble with yours since a Hurco is PC based from factory.
Good looking machine you have there!

I did a retrofit of a BMC20 a while back, the log is on this forum.
Had to change the drives as they failed one by one, but they are very easy to tune with LinuxCNC, took about 5 minutes.
Then the spindle drive failed .... made it work again but every once in a while it would fail to start.
Yaskawa drives all of them.
The tool changer stuff is quite simple, just do not remove anything but the control.

Hi there,Unfortunately, I didn't have much time.I am currently working on the Hurco again and soting some cables.Unfortunately, to this day I don't have a reasonable circuit diagram, that makes the retrofit a bit more difficult, but not unsolvable. There are still a few questions, especially the emergency stop is another topic, since the converter documentation does not contain one-sided information either. The tool changer board flies out, I only use the Brake Pack and the controll will do the Siemens S7.
I install a 100l air pressure tank at the side of the machine.

Hi there,

the XYZ axis can now be controlled via Linux CNC and also move.
However, we have not yet made any further settings.
We wanted to put the spindle motor into operation, but unfortunately we didn't succeed.
There are no signals from the encoder to the Mesa card.
The encoder receives 5V (are available), the signal goes to the Yasakawa driver and is processed further. Then the signal comes out of the driver and goes to the Mesa card.
I hope the encoder is not broken.
Turn the spindle by hand, a signal arrives at the Yasakawa driver because several LEDs light up again and again.

I think I have a problem with the encoder.
It looks like oil spilled in there.
Has anyone ever disassembled such an encoder, possibly non-destructive?

Nope.
But as a general rule, they are very sensitive devices and great care must be taken when working with them.
If there is no rust on the disc, a good cleaning should work, use a very soft brush, hot water or rubbing alcohol, pressurized air but at low pressure.
If there is rust, do not bother with it.

Before I dismantle any more, I'll put the 5V directly on the encoder on Thursday and then I will see if i can measure any signals on the connector.
If it doesn't, there is a problem here.

If you take a closer look, it looks like there is oil on the board.

I can‘t see any rust.
