Direct IP has the same problems. Looks like a server problem.

If I try to go to editor, the editor page lags out and the editor pane disappears momentarily.

Everything is laggy.

And unknown, you seem to hate speculative, opinionated, unsubstantiated comments, but post many yourself nonetheless.

What's a hosts file?

I looked at traceroute, ping time, DNS lookup and so on.
I don't think its a network issue, rather a server issue.
I see that I get contact with the web server pretty quickly, then it takes ages (sometimes) to get the data.
At this moment it is quick, no problems, but I guess that will change after I post this.

If you point out any comments that you have issue with, and point out my errors I'll be more than happy to take it under consideration.

Rather than explain what is already well documented, and doesn't contain any of the above mentioned information here is a link.

Been using LangdonS DNS today afternoon, it is much better than the normal route.
It is mostly DNS issue as can be seen in the screenshots:

Be aware that the ping result is most probably not from our server but from CloudFlare server that is the closest to our server, as seen above when trying to access that IP address.

Pinging linuxcnc.org gives me thiss address:
PING linuxcnc.org (69.163.143.134) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from apache2-heavy.pdx1-shared-a3-06.dreamhost.com (69.163.143.134): icmp_seq=1 ttl=45 time=226 ms

And forum.linuxcnc.org
64 bytes from forum.linuxcnc.org (162.243.45.186): icmp_seq=1 ttl=49 time=284 ms

I would assume in my stupidness that they are 2 different servers,as per the IP addresses.

The wiki seems to be on the linuxcnc.org server
PING linuxcnc.org (69.163.143.134) 56(84) bytes of data.

"LangdonS DNS" rymes!

Also, why is the site on dreamhost?

A really laggy dream for sure...

Static assets should probably be served from a different server (preferably one that is free, like Cloudflare Pages or something).

Anyone any thoughts on the 2 separate servers ?

And langdons, I answered your question regarding the hosts file, now could you point out the comments I have made as per your description ? I would like to put them up for reconsideration.

Yeah, apparently i forgot this:

Till pretty late, LinuxCNC was hosted on a PC in a private home, can not recall who was the owner.
So yes, we are on two servers, call it redundancy! :)

Why do you think it is a DNS issue from those figures?
You can easily switch DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and test if that gives a better response.
Some 200 ms ping time is fine in this context. I mean we are looking for minutes.
And right now the access to the forum is blazing fast.
And there may be more than one reason.
Here is a test you can do. Download the "recent" page.

LC_ALL=C is there just to switch to english from some local, obscure dialect.
This time it was just fine, but yesterday it got stuck right before the "200 OK" reponse. Which indicates that
a request was sent but we are waiting a very long time for the response from the web server.
