The forum is really laggy recently. was created by langdons
Half the time, I can't even connect because my request times out.
Why doesn't the forum site use Cloudflare?
(Cloudflare might not be that great, but it's free, so why not?)

By the way, the forum is also accessible from linuxcnc.langdonstaab.ca and from 162.243.45.186.

I'm having the same problem. Got on using the .org just a while ago and now trying the 162.243.45.186. I will see if works any faster.

Are you suggesting it's the DNS server that is the issue ?
I don't understand if the server at forum.linuxcnc.org is under high load how accessing it via an IP address will speed things up.
And how does linuxcnc.langdonstaab.ca make things quicker ?
Have you got prior approval for this ?
Can you guarantee this will be a safe and secure method of accessing the forum ?
Is this a replication of the forum, with you running the forum software ?
If so how did to you get admin rights ?
I'm really confused as to how this is going to work and improve access, if beyond a quicker dns query time.

It doesn't seem to be a DNS issue to me, rather too high load on the web server for some reason.

Hope it's the same for you guys, here it is flowing just fine since yesterday after several days of sluggishness.
Wouldn't go anywhere else than the official site. Appreciate the effort from langdons, but doesn't really solve anything.
Edit: It didn't take long after I wrote it and the first contact takes a very long time.

I'm not sure why, but direct IP access does seem faster, which is really odd.
linuxcnc.langdonstaab.ca is faster than forum.linuxcnc.org (and to a lesser extent the direct IP), which also makes no sense.
It's most peculiar.
Stupid DigitalOcean.

Anyone can copy an IP address and paste it into an A record in the DNS panel for their site.
Hakan could make forum.hakan.cc link to the LinuxCNC forum, for example.

And yes, anyone can add A records to "their" DNS, but normally that is quite complicated and takes time to propagate, but CloudFlare makes that as easy as LandonS says.

That is normal as the direct IP does not go through DNS servers, only through normal IP routers/servers, also known as ROOT servers.I'm not sure why, but direct IP access does seem faster, which is really odd.

No need to go to that hassle. You can just add a record to your hosts file.
But is it a DNS issue or a server issue, maybe a disgruntled individual playing stupid games ?
Even with cached DNS entries the forum can still be slow at times. Firefox gives different error messages between not being able to get a DNS result versus a timeout contacting a server.
Although with various gumbernments wanting to censor the internet Chinese style who knows what the fuck is going on. I hang my head in shame at the actions of my government and at the sheep that couldn't see their lies and voted for them. This is not the Australia I grew up in. I'm disgusted, saddened and embarrassed.
