.
Hm, output is empty.halcmd show pin *7i73*
When LinuxCNC is running
May be, this works together with the hardware only?
The point is, I stil don't know, how to connect to hardware
Thank you any way!

Yes, the "smart" part of smart-serial is that the cards themselves state what functions they offer and what the HAL pin names should be at startup.
If you do not have the 5i25 installed either then that would explain the "hm2_pci not found" too.

Hm, when I count the input pins, there are 8 at connector P1 and 8 at connector P2, which in sum are 16 or 15 as 0-based index.
No, that would be input-07 (7I73 manual page 7)So to use the Pin10 of the second connector of the third 7i73 the pin-notation would be
right?hm2_5i25.0.7i73.0.2.input-15
.
Hm, I installed hostmot2-firmware-all ...If you do not have the 5i25 installed either then that would explain the "hm2_pci not found" too.
... and I created a xml-file like the one from pinned 5i25 thread in /lib/firmware/hm2/5i25/
What else do I need to install?

Just make a config with pncconf, don't pay too much attention to it being right, just let it build the file structure.
Then edit the pin names in the generated HAL file to do what you need them to do.

my hardware seems to be ready for testing, so I did a fresh install (debian preempt + linuxcnc from master). But pncconf does not work, so I have to do all manually

mesaflash showed the output of 5i25_RMA.txt:
As I don't have a configuration to start linuxcnc, I used halrun and entered the commands manually, which leaded to 5i25_RMA_hal.out.txt:
The result from show pin hm2_5i25 differred a lot from my expectations. Don't know, what I should do with the result.
show pin 7i73 did not show anything. Do I need to load an additional driver for that?
Or how can I investigate a 7i73 card?
First run of latency-test gave pretty poor result. How important is the latency when using mesa cards?

(And if the 7i73 is powered from a separate 5V, is it jumpered for that)
