Problem using emc2-install.sh

I've just gone through the painful process of upgrading 8.04 to 10.04 onto the Toshiba A30 laptop I use as a coding /viewing machine, and having got past the blank screen by installing an Intel driver ppa, and am now trying to add emc2.

Before the install of emc2 was complete, I got an error message that there was a broken package that would have to be mended.

"E:/var/cache/apt/archives/rtai-modules-2.6.32-122-rtai_3.8.1-linuxcnc1_i386.deb: trying to overwrite '/etc/udev/rules.d/99-rtai.rules', which is also in package rtai-modules-2.6.24-16-rtai 0"

was the detail, but as a newbie, I haven't the faintest idea how to move past this.

Can anybody help, or should I post into the ubuntu forum for help there ?
John

EDIT I added the posting to the Ubuntu forum, in case it's one for them rather than an EMC2 .

Is it as simple as removing the rtai-modules-2.6.24-16-rtai 0 package ?
Do I need this one ? Is it replaced by the newer one ?

I think I've found the solution by tracking down and reading the EMC documentation Wiki: Ubuntu10.04PackageNotes.
Under known problems is this very one.
Tomorrow will tell.

Yes, that seems to have done the trick.
So onward and upward, hopefully.

Glad to hear you are getting there.

I am not sure that a live-CD re-install might not be easier (I am not sure if you keep your data in that case)

Hi Andy.
I remember an old saying "If you want to get there, I wouldn't start from here....... ;)

Well, things didn't quite work out. :(

Having got EMC2 loaded several days ago, I've only just round to opening it.
Except that I haven't - opened it.
If i try opening the sim-axis I get an EMC2 splash window, then an Error window with a long page of info.

Rather than quote it all here, I believe there's a way of posting it without it showing (hidden) unless you click on it.
I've done it once before, but memory fails me (again !).
Can someone oblige with instructions, then I can add it.

You can copy it to a txt file and attach that to your message... also you can do dmesg > error.txt and the output of dmesg is send to a text file so you don't lose any of it.
