I've put together the steps to install Debian 9 - 13 (yes Sid has a number now).
Fix all the annoying things in Debian.
Install LinuxCNC.
Configure Debian for Mesa Ethernet cards.
And a few other things.

gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/index.html

The only thing I've not figured out how to do is to build the documents on Debian 11.

Very nice, easy to follow.

I'm installing according to the Debian 12 instruction, fresh install on a new SSD.
I ended up with  kernel 5.18.0-4-rt-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_RT. The instruction says 5.18.0-3-rt. I think that I did one apt upgrade extra compared to the instruction. Is it ok to use 5.18.0-4-rt?
Can and should I switch to  5.18.0-3-rt?
Edit: Installed the missing packages, sorry for a rockie question.

Debian 12 and 13 upgrade a lot so the latest kernel is constantly being changed.

My new LinuxCNC is up and running in sim, ok so far.
Your instruction was great, thanks!

The things I had to figure out myself:
- Install missing packages
- Uninstall already installed LinuxCNC packages before installing the newly built deb.
- mesact version is newer in git than in the installation instruction.

The pace of change may be slowing.

For those playing with Debian Bookworm, the first Alpha release was released on 22 September. It has been announced that Bookworm will install the non-free libraries by default.
There are standard and nonfree isos available so I'm not sure if that announcement has been implemented yet.

But the good news is that there is a standard location for Bookworm ISOs now so I would recommend the alpha non-free images should be used. Select your platform from here
cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/no...m_di_alpha1+nonfree/

For Intel 64 bit cpu's that means this folder and its contents won't be changing for a while.
cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/no...onfree/amd64/iso-cd/

Previously you had to use daily or weekly builds.

I just updated Debian 12 and 13 and the index page as the 7i96S now works with the Debian version of LinuxCNC.

After doing an update on debian 12 and 13 I see linux-image-6.00-2-rt-amd64 in synaptic, has anyone tried 6.0? with a Mesa ethernet card?

I did, on the Mazak PC (old Celeron), has the same issues 5.10 and others have on it.
Using Linux Mint 21 so 4.19 does not work for some reason.

hi all.  Today installed 2.9 from source.  after a long compilation, instead of the installation deb packages, I get the lcnts 2.10 archive.  Something went wrong?
